community values statement
Arlo & Company was founded on the principles of fear-free, relationship-based pet care. These relationships must extend beyond our pets, and into our wider community. We lead our actions with compassion and kindness.
All clients, pet care providers, and folks otherwise connected to Arlo & Company will be held to the following non-negotiable Community Values.
Violation of the Community Values will result in a warning. Push back or repeat violations will result in services being cancelled and contracts terminated immediately.
compassion
We meet each other where we are at – and work together to fulfil both pet and guardian needs. Belittling remarks regarding education, socioeconomic status or housing situation will not be tolerated.
community
We value and respect the unique lived experiences of every person and pet. Bullying and harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, classist, etc. language will not be tolerated.
equity
We recognize that unlearning racism and other prejudices requires conscious, ongoing effort. We therefore commit ourselves to active listening & life-long-learning. We examine how our own privilege allows us to benefit from white supremacy, and we take action to call out racist, classist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. comments and practices. We commit to understanding how our privilege impacts our experience both with pet care and pet guardianship.
choice
We recognize dog training and pet care have direct ties to human rights issues. Humans and animals alike require autonomy & choice to thrive, and we have an obligation to remove barriers and decolonize the systems that prevents us this level of free choice.
humane care
No being needs a “heavy hand” or force to learn. The world is hard enough, pet care should be a safe and welcoming space, free of fear and pain.
